Jesus miniseries in the works

From Hollywood reporter.
"We believe the audience continues to have a hunger for life- and faith-affirming films,” says Michael Landon Jr., who is writing and producing the new version of Jesus of Nazareth with Brian Bird for Brad Krevoy’s MPCA. “The monumental success of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s The Bible just underscores that."

Ah. So it's a spinoff. Like The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo spun off from B. J. and the Bear. Next we'll see "Three's Company in the Fiery Furnace!" Or "This Old Wall at Jericho with Bob Vila". Or maybe some reality shows like "The Great Galilean Fishing Boat Race" or "Pick Up Your Mat and Walk!" Can you just imagine the green room pitches?

Says Bird: “We’re not looking to cause controversy to anybody. What we hope to do will be orthodox and faithful to the gospel and pleasing to whoever sees it. The idea of helping skeptics see Christ in a different way than they’ve ever seen him before, that’s not going to upset the choir.”

Why does Jesus have to be "different"? Wasn't the 'old' Jesus good enough?

I think it is God they need to worry about ticking off, not the choir.

“Every generation should have the chance to experience this story,” says Krevoy. “It’s perfect for today with all the things happening in the world. It’s great entertainment and educational.”

Jesus as entertainment. Lord, preserve us. I know that TV people can't imagine any other activity except TV, but every generation can do something to experience the bible, and every generation already has. It's called r.e.a.d.

Landon says their version “will be traditional in the sense we’re going to stay true to the gospel, but it won’t be traditional in the sense that our version is actually going to be made for the skeptic, not the believer.”

Um. OK. We'll see.Perhaps they didn't read 2 Peter 3:3. Or Hebrews 6:6.

  2. Thanks for sharing your snark, but I don't think you have any idea what Bird and Landon are trying to do. Unfortunately very few nonbelievers read the Bible, or even darken the door of a church these days, and 50 % of all young people raised in church are walking away from their faith. Perhaps you should wait to judge what they, as Christ-followers, are trying to do with the Jesus story. Not sure there is a downside to 10 million-plus people seeing a faithful depiction of the Savior on TV. As opposed to what? 10 million-plus fewer people seeing it?

    1. Your welcome for the snark. Totally. Because I get UPSET when people present Jesus as entertainment. When they *say* they are creating a 'faithful representation' of Jesus, but in the next breath, that it will be 'different' and 'non-traditional.' Ask Nadab and Abihu how innovating God's word went for them.

Do you know why half the youth walk away and people never 'darken the door' of a church? Because they see that we fail to honor Jesus, water down the word, and play silly games at the pulpit. Look at Landon's first quote as tot he REASOn he is doing the series- "We believe the audience continues to have a hunger for life- and faith-affirming films" Not that "10 million people need to come to salvation under Lord Jesus's grace." He never mentioned that. Not once.

That it was only given a green light because the other series has made so much money. This means the 'faithful Gospel' will be washed through filthy lucre.

And remember, Downey and Burnett have already said they are going to be faithful to the bible. And they ended up with this repugnance, offensive thing we're seeing spawn daughters of satan (Rev 2:22-23)

So yes, I judge it based on their own words and actions, which are contrary to the bible. I am sad that our holy Jesus is now entertainment, manipulated for the masses to make money.

Bible verses which tell me this production isn't going to be all that and a bag of chips:

1 Peter 5:1-3 says not to offer the Gospel as for filthy lucre

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions

Mt 7:6- Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.

And the apostasy that is predicted is here.

So snark, judging, and skepticism, whatever you want to call it, by their own words they tell me that this is going to be a disaster also. Look closely at what people say and how what they say matches up (or not) with what they do. yes, if 10Mpeople see a commercial production of Jesus as entertainment, it IS NOT BETTER than if they had never see it at all. In this case, 'Something' is NOT better then nothing!

  3. These mini-series seem to have two goals IMHO. To turn some off, and to turn some on to the wrong path.
Some will come away hating God more than they ever did by hearing incomplete truths or lies about Him.
Some will be turned to the false jesus anti-christ by way of deception.

  4. Oh, great. They are bound and determined to make Jesus acceptable to all. Well, funny thing, and out of the mouth of Jesus Himself, He says He has come to divide, Luke12:51.
Sounds like some more ear-tickling coming down the pike, to me.
If people follow these productions, and believe their rendition of Jesus, then the one they will be looking for in the end times, will be the anti-christ, not the Jesus of the Bible.
He will be the new-age rendition. That's why in the Tribulation, the mark will be taken willingly. The only ones who won't capitulate will be those marked of God.
Why would anyone trust new-agers to tell them who Jesus is instead of God,Himself telling who He is in His OWN Word.
    Sad, very sad.

    1. Exactly! What are they going to do to create a Jesus that is palatable to the skeptic? He is already unpalatable to them because He convicts of sin and speaks wrath. They are condemned already (John 3:18). So Mr Landon knows better than Jesus Himself? because Jesus did not water down His message but spoke truth. Many then followed Him no more, (John 6:60, John 6:66). Did Jesus then say, "Wait, guys! I have a special message just for you skeptics!" People need to hear the truth, period. (Romans 10:14).

  5. No one, no one, NO ONE, has ever been saved by hearing a false gospel presented to them. Faith comes by HEARING and hearing comes BY THE WORD OG GOD-Rom. 10:17. No where in Scripture will be found that God has spoken to or in any way lead His people by the words of false prophets and Scripture manipulaters.

    So snark away, Elizabeth.
